Over the years, VMAR has learnt that a decent model of any RAF trainer will get a good reception. And with the Bulldog, we think that this trend will continue. For those with an urge to beat a different path, the Swedish liveried version offers an interesting alternative.
The Bulldog is a 2 or 3-seat side-by-side training aircraft originally designed by Beagle Aircraft. The prototype Bulldog first flew on 19 May 1969 at Shoreham Airport. The first order for the type was for 78 from the Swedish Air Board. Before a single aircraft was produced, the Beagle company folded and the order was taken over by Scottish Aviation (Bulldog) Limited. All subsequent aircraft were built by Scottish Aviation at Prestwick Airport.
The largest customer was the Royal Air Force, which placed an order for 130 Bulldogs in 1972 entering service as the Bulldog T1. It was used extensively by the Royal Air Force as a basic trainer, in particular being the standard aircraft of the University Air Squadrons and Air Experience Flights, providing flying training for many years.
The VMAR Bulldog is a traditionally built IC model covered in VMAR’s well detailed Polycote covering. The model is supplied with a tricycle undercarriage as per the full size and a pre fitted pilot. The model would make an excellent semi scale sports model with an extremely good presence on the ground and in the air.
